Payroll
Who is in charge of payroll and how does it work? Payroll refers to the records and activities that your company carries out with regard to the payment of employees. Payroll covers salaries, wages and bonuses as well as any other expenditure on the part of your company to a member of staff. Payroll is not a synonym for pay check, although issuing a pay check is part of the process.
Payroll and payroll workers, known in the U.S. as Fundamental Payroll Consultants, or Certified Payroll Professionals deal with the technicalities of creating the pay check. The payroll office of your company will know the hours of all employees as well as their wage bracket; what tax bracket they fall into; if automatic pension deductions are being taken; and anything else that will contribute to the final amount of the check. Once all of the information has been fed into the payroll system it can be run. Depending on the size of your company, the running of the payroll can take anything from a few minutes to a couple of hours, but at the end of the process the payroll office will have the correct calibrated amounts for all employees of your company.
A further very important part of the payroll system is the pay slip. This little piece of paper issued with our pay check not only tells you the good news of what you’ve been paid but it also tells you how much tax has been deducted from your gross amount as well as any other deductions made on your behalf. It is always very important to keep your pay slips in a safe place, both so that you will have the record of it, but also because it contains all of your personal information and you don’t want it to fall into the wrong hands.
You may hear of such a thing as a payroll savings program. This is a program that you can set up that will automatically deposit money from your monthly pay-slip into a savings account. A payroll savings program is useful in building up savings without any real effort.
