Default Making your bank work for you.

I have a bank account of course just like everyone else. There are a few things you want to look at before you choose your bank.
Minimum balance for one. Those checking accounts that offer all those wonderful free checking etcetera probably have a minimum balance on them. Which means if you fall below that minimum you will be charged a fee. I don't like these fees.
You also need to watch that over draft protection that they offer you. There will be a fee if you have to use it. This could be anywhere from $25 to $40 it depends on the bank.
You also need to check on the ATM availability if you have an ATM card. Don't decide because there are many you can use. Decide because they are in network and don't charge a fee. You also need to know if they are going to be out of your way. You may save a couple of dollars by using it but is it worth the difference in gas.
Check your banks website before you leave for your vacation. You need to know if they have ATM or bank services in the area you are going to be. You may save yourself a bundle.

I agree that you do need to be careful when choosing what type of account is the best for you. As in most things in life, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read all fineprint and ask lots of questions.

I am fortunate to be able to bank where I do. They are a bunch of really nice people who do look out for my interests. They always answer my questions and make me the very best offers. They do have an overdraft protection plan in which it covers up to $200.00 and there is no fee as long as you have it paid back within 7 days. It is a pretty good deal.
