Default Mistaken Identity

A friend of the family works at the one and only bank in the area here and she was telling us yesterday about a huge mistake that the bank had made to a person's account.

I guess someone didn't check a customers I.D and cashed a check which was stolen for more than $2,000!!

Now the bank has had to replace that money in the person's bank account, but still this is something that can easily happen to anyone at any time.

Thanks to all of the security cameras in the bank, the person was caught on tape and will hopefully be arrested soon. Just goes to show that everyone has to be on their guard, keep personal information out of the hands of crooks and locked up some where safely at home.

Wow, wonder what will happen to the cashier that cashed the check? It seems odd to me that they would cash a check without seeing a persons ID.

I am also glad to hear that the bank had to put the money back in the customers account because it was the banks fault that this happened.

As to the person that stole the check in the first place, dont they know about cameras etc? Or did they think they might be invisible? Just another dumb ass attack in action.

That seems to happen a lot, I one time had the bank take 90.00 out of my account, it was not me, took months to fix it, since then I do not trust banks to much I did start a account with a new bank, and closed up with the old one.

This is why I don't have a bank account. It seems that you just can't trust banks anymore!!

I know people are prone to make mistakes, that is just part of life. However when that mistakes takes away money and budgets are hard to handle right now then those mistakes can seriously have some bad effects on people!!

I don't know what will happen to the cashier who didn't bother to check the person's ID. Though something needs to be done. If she had only asked for ID then none of this mess would have happened and everyone would have been happy.

Guess you gotta live and learn though. I am just glad that the money that was taken from the account was replaced by the bank. Maybe the cashier who didn't do her job should be liable for the money. That would teach her to have so much removed from each check til the money has been replaced.

There are so many women in my area with the same name that they always ask for my birth date and address when I go to deposit or whatever even though they all know me on a first name basis. And this is one thing that makes me feel very secure with the bank that I deal with.

Yes, I agree that the teller needed to pay that money back. After all, she was the one that didnt do her job correctly and by taking the money out of her check, she may have learned to pay better attention to what she was doing.

I would actually be surprised if she doesnt lose her job over that $2000 mistake. We arent talking chump change here, thats big bucks. And hopefully they catch and prosecute the thief.
