Default Seperate Bank Accounts for Married Couples

I read an article about a couple who have been married for twenty years. They say they have occassional arguments like most couples but never about money.

That right off the bat intrigued me because most couples argue about money more than anything else. They say money is the number one cause for divorce.

They have been successful with not fighting about money because they both have their own bank accounts. They have the bills split in half as evenly as possible. They each pay half.

They also have made arrangements for other things. They don't have children so they eat out about as much as they eat in. The husband pays for the eat outs and the wife buys the groceries and household items for the home.

They split most of the household chores too. The husband hates laundry and the wife hates fueling the vehicles. So she does all of the laundry and in exchange he keeps the vehicles fueled.

These two might have found the right stuff for a successful relationship!

Default Re: Seperate Bank Accounts for Married Couples

Lol. Well shoot, I thought that was what most couples did. Thats basically how we handle things here at our house and it works out just fine.

We also have never had an argument about money. We consider all monies that come into the house from my husband and I as our money. We share the bills and everything else so theres no need to argue.

We discuss all major purchases and give input as to why we do or dont need it at the time and it works out wonderfully.

And we both have our own checking accounts. That way if and when we go on vacation, we have access to more money on our debit cards than we would with just one bank account. So it all works out perfectly for us.
