Default Using Debit Cards as Credit

I think just about everyone has heard when they opened up an account and got a debit card that if your going to use your debit card in a store that you should always use it as a credit card.

What sense does this make? Credit cards and debit cards are two different things, but some banks will tack on extra fees if you use your debit card in a store as a debit card!!!

I just don't get the thinking of those who came up with this crap!! Are these stupid little things all designed to help banks rake in more money off their own customers when they get confused and mess up??

Sorry I just found out that my other half has been using his debit card as a debit card in stores and where ever else he shops and has been paying out the ass in fees from his bank for this.

Guess I now know that he doesn't pay much attention to his bank statements. Yet another job I will have to do to make sure that he isn't paying more than he needs to.

If I use my bank card as debit I pay .25 per transaction. That sounds like a small amount but I use my card a lot and it adds up fast. I always use it as credit unless the store or whatever doesn't accept credit. Some still don't.

Yeah, I don't know who came up with it but it does seem to be just another way of making money!

It is a shame that banks are allowed to get away with childish things like this. I really don't think it is right at all! The bank that he uses actaually charges him .75 cents for each transaction on his card that isn't credit.

He was paying nearly $20.00 or more a month for these fees that they tacked on. Of course he is no longer using his card as a debit. Now he will be saving more money every single month.

Honestly he should be handing me that savings or at least part of it for saving him. I know I am mean!
