California Budget Deficit issues
Nearly $28 million in the next two years is the estimated budget deficit for California. This is of course unless there are some serious steps taken to help stem the fiscal bleeding. Mac Taylor who is a Legislative Analyst has said that with the state still faltering this year and comming off of a difficult budget year and the unlikely recovery of the economy any time soon is making this a monumental problem.
With out drastic steps the state will have gaps in the budget of about 22 million dollars per year through 2014. The solution of simply cutting spending will not have enough of an effect to help the budget recover, and would devastate the funding for programs such as health care as well as education. Taylor has also said that this really isnt a good time to be increasing the taxes, but there seems to be no other choice. It has also been suggested that lawmakers should consider increasing the states income tax by around 5% and also raising the vehicle license fee which is 0.65% to a full 1% of the value of the vehicle.
Several things and suggestions are still being discussed, though it appears that increases to taxes are going to occur for California, to help get the budget deficit back under control.
