Default Charitable Tax Write Off's

A friend of mine works hard for her money and she does give quite a bit to several charities in her area as well as others. I am just wondering if any of these would be tax write offs when the time comes for her to file taxes.

Though my question is does anyone know how to go about finding out if the donations she gives would be tax write off's or not?

Any help anyone can give on this subject would be appreciated. The more anyone can use when it comes to taxes the better off people are going to be.

"You may deduct charitable contributions of money or property made to qualified organizations if you itemize your deductions." (IRS Publication 78)
Charitable contributions can lower your tax bill and also reduce your taxable income but in order to do so, you have to itemize.

You claim these deductions on your 1040 by using a Schedule A. But there are certain criteria you have to meet in order to make the claim.

For one thing, it has to be an actual contribution not just your having made a promise to contribute. And you have to have given to a qualified tax-exempt organization.

You also have to be able to itemize your taxes, so there are criteria there that also have to be met. Plus you have to keep your cancelled checks, any appraisals on property or items, and any letters from the organization that you contributed to that acknowledge the contribution.

All said, be sure to visit the IRS website for further information on how to use these contributions.
