Default Eau Claire City Council Cares

A public hearing will be taking place soon by the Eau Claire City Council. One item on the agenda for this meeting is the 2009 deficit of the city budget which is over 2.4 million dollars.
At this time the council is considering to balance this budget deficit by creating a wheel tax of about ten dollars for all vehicles which are kept in the city, there is also the possibility of a street light utility transfer which will remove the costs of lighting the streets from the property tax and make it into a seperate bill which all will share including those who are tax exempt. Another consideration is a fee for snowplowing as well as one for parkland developments and new construction fees.
The city council knows that trying to sell people on the idea of supporting new taxes is not likely going to happen, though one thing that the city council does not know is what the taxpayers might know. The city council is having this meeting to seek the ideas and suggestions of the taxpayers to help design a 2009 budget which isnt going to over tax the taxpayers.
All know that there are no simple solutions to this problem of the deficit, though hopefully all can work together to create a plan which will keep parks and roads from falling apart while at the same time allow the taxpayers to keep some of their cash in their wallets.

Default Re: Eau Claire City Council Cares

I think it would help a lot of cities to go to the residents and ask for help in deciding how best to get the money needed for their annual budgets. I think many times we feel that our governments simply decide to ask to raise taxes, without letting the public have a say in the beginning. This makes the taxpayers say "no way" and turning the propositions down on election day.
