Default Monthly payments to the IRS.

When you owe taxes, you can call the IRS and make arrangements to make monthly payments.

We have done that and right now with my husband not being able to work, we dont have the money to make the payments.

I called the IRS to let them know this and really didnt get any answers to my quandry that I could work with.

For one thing, by not making the payments, they add interest and late charges that are more than what the monthly payment would have been and this just adds more and more to the amount I am not able to pay.

So now what happens, my hubby will have to go for major surger soon and cant work because of that fact plus the fact that he has been passing out.

They suggested that we make quarterly payments but how can we do that when I have no idea how much of an income we will have coming in and I refuse to agree to something if I dont know whether or not I can follow through.

Anyone have any alternative ideas?

I have never been in this situation, however I know of a few people who have been. It isn't the best place to be. Seek out an attorney which specializes in this kind of stuff.

Usally there is no charge to you by these lawyers until later, but they can help reduce the vicious cycle that your now caught in.

The last thing you need to be worrying about is IRS payments, your husband is much more important.

I seriously would seek out legal help on this matter, they can get the amount you do owe the IRS reduced, they can get those fee's and penalties removed. Of course I can't say for sure that in your case they will be able to do all of this, but it never hurts to seek out the help on an attorney and at least figure out what can be done, cant be done and what should be done.

I honestly wouldn't know of anything else to tell you to do besides what dimetime said. At least if you go that route you know that you are doing things the legal way and can avoid any additional problems.

I haven't really ever had to deal with the IRS. Thank goodness.

My husband is self-employed and he is supposed to make quarterly tax payments to the IRS but we never have to be honest. I think because we make so little that they leave us alone. We just pay whatever is owed out of our income tax return and they seem to be happy with that. I guess they have bigger fish to fry anyhow. lol.

I am sorry to hear that your husband is going to have surgery. I hope all goes well and he recovers quickly. Can he not get some sort of disability because of it? I would imagine that he should be able to. I'd maybe look into that and if he qualifies you might be able to make the payments on time to the IRS. I don't know... just an idea.

You are in a horrible situation. I would be afraid to go with the lawyer idea in fear his bill might be more then you owe the irs. Btw... I hate the irs lol. Gawd forbid the irs to have a heart and work with you if you were to show them proof of your husbands condition.

I wish you and your husband the best of luck.

First let me say I wish you and your hubby all the best. I am sorta in the same boat as you are except for hubby.

I have got to call the irs and see about making payment arrangements. We can't afford our bills as is much less adding another one to them.

I know there are people out there I have seen on the tv that helps you lower your taxes you owe, but you have to to owe them over 10,000 for them to help you I am going to try and find out and I have no idea what they charge you to help. When I found out I will let you know.
