Default Taxes vs. Crime

I have been seening quite a bit of debate on several cities which are trying to raise their taxes to arm officers as well as hire in more officers to help keep crime in these areas down. Many inner cities are seeing much higher crime rates and it is guessed to be because of the horrible economy we are all facing. The last thing people want to hear about are increases in the amount of taxes they have to pay, while at the same time no one wants to see criminals getting away for robbery or murder because there are not enough officers to handle all the crime. These inner cities mostly do not have the revenue to hire in more police officers, with out raising taxes. This seems to be one of those situations that no matter which way you go, there are going to be massive problems and angry people.Even though I hear of this problem being mostly in inner cities, there are many other areas nationwide which are also dealing with the same problem, I am sure.My question to you is if you were living in this type of area with a high crime rate would you be willing to accomodate higher taxes to deal with crime or take your chances with the officers which your city already has?

Default Re: Taxes vs. Crime

Of course no one wants to pay higher taxes, we - as a nation - are in such debt that we're never going to get it paid. At the same time, if we need to pay more taxes to keep our citizens safe, then we need to pay those taxes.

I feel that the amount of shoplifting and other types of crime is rising in my area, and I live in a pretty much rural area. I can imagine the jump in crime in the big cities across the country.

I think we need our citizens to speak out about crime. Too many people are still turning their heads when they see crime taking place. If the public were to get involved and speak up when they see someone stealing from others, we probably wouldn't need so many officers of the law.
