$11 Pack of Cigarettes

Wow, this floored me!

New Yorkers pay the most in taxes on cigarettes in the nation. They pay $4.35 in tax on each pack of cigarettes. The state legislature just approved a bill that would add a state tax onto that in the amount of $1.50 per pack. That would make the tax on each pack cost $5.85!

Remember... thats just the tax!

So all in all, they will be paying right around $11.00 PER pack of cigarettes!!! Is that nuts or what!!!

And I just read something the other day about the postal service is banning people from being able to mail out tobacco products. Poor New Yorkers, they are screwed!

This is just bullshit!! I suggest that all smokers in New York take a stand against this shit. I am a smoker and there is no way I would pay that much for one pack. I think I would be finding another state to move to real quick!!

I can not believe what they are doing to the smokers of the world,they got us hooked by putting all of the chemicals in them and now they are making them so expensive that most of us will never be able to afford to buy them.

Come on how far are you going to take this? I think that it is absolutley crazy to do this to the price of cigarrettes.I guess they will be considered a luxury and only the rich will be able to afford them.

Actually, New York has had a ban on having tobacco delivered to their residents for quite some time. There was recently a federal ban placed on sending any and all smokeless tobacco through the usps, or ups/fedex/etc...

don't ask me why it was only for smokeless tobacco, because I'm still shaking my head over that one. I order my little cigars (they're a cross between cigarettes and cigars, but are as small as cigarettes with cigar tobacco...) online for $11 a carton.

Love it....hehe...but hell, that's the only thing I can afford to smoke

At those prices how could anyone afford to buy them by the carton? I do have to wonder how many New Yorkers have given up smoking completely because of the price alone for a pack of cigarettes?

I guess some day someone will actually take a stand against the many taxes that are being shoved down our throats and maybe then things will be within a price range we can afford.

To have a pack of cigarettes of all things, cost that much is ludicrous.

I roll my own cigarettes, because the prices for packs of them even generic brands is just to much.

I used to smoke the small cigars like Beaston described, but you can't find them in my area anymore. They sell out quickly because they are so inexpensive.

I liked them better than rolling my own, but I will do what I have to.
