Default Battling an Ear Ache

I know that this is a bit off topic but I wanted to let you all know about this anyhow.

Night before last I woke up at 2:30 in the morning with the worst ear ache that I have ever had in my entire life. It was so bad I had tears in my eyes. Nothing I did eased the pain. I tried applying pressure, I tried no pressure, I tried holding a hot water bottle to my ear, I tried a cold pack... nothing helped. I took four tylenol and it didn't even touch it. This went on until about 5 in the morning when I finally woke my husband up. I was literally going to have him take me to the ER because the pain was so bad.

He went into the kitchen and cut an onion. He squeezed a little bit of the juice out of it onto a spoon. He had me tilt my head and he poured a few drops in my ear. I swear to you it was instant relief! No more pain at all! He told me that his pap taught him to do that and that his family has used onion juice for ear aches for as long as he could remember.

Listen, I have given birth three times, twice with no meds. I would rate this ear ache right up there... almost close to child birth. And the onion juice took the pain away instantly! So keep this in mind. You don't need any fancy medicine for an ear ache because nothing works quite like a good ole onion!!!

(I wonder if it works for tooth aches??? Hmmmm )

I grew up having severe ear aches and I know it is a horrible pain to feel. I never tried using onion juice but I did use sweet oil which was heated slightly and placed into my ear. That would some times help, but it never completely got rid of the pain.

Normally I don't keep onions in the house because I don't like them, but from now on just in case there will be at least one onion in my home.

Thanks for this tip. Also I wanted to mention that for less severe ear aches, take a hair dryer on a warm setting and allow it to blow across the ear. This also helps.

Ear aches are one thing right up there with tooth aches which are something that make life truely miserable.

When I got the earache I thought that I had some sweet oil but I searched my bathroom cupboard and I couldn't find a drop of it! I know that it does help but it doesn't take all of the pain away.

I was also told that if you get someone to blow cigarette smoke in your ear the pain will stop. I haven't tried that one.

I swear to ya though, the onion juice was like a miracle to me. I cannot even describe to you how bad that pain felt. I think it would have been a relief to have gotten stabbed in the ear!!!! It really was that bad! I have a new found love for onions lol!

On the downside, my poor ear had onion breath lol!

Here are some other things that you can use according to an article that I read for ear aches.

2-3 drops of warm olive oil

garlic juice from fresh garlic. Garlic is a natural antibiotic.

warm mineral oil

I have heard of the blowing cigarette smoke into an ear will stop an ear ache, let me tell ya don't even bother trying that one.

It does not work at all and I have tried it as well as had others tell me that it doesn't work. So I wouldn't waste the time trying that one. Though I will keep these others that you mentioned around in case of another ear ache. Though first I am going to try that onion juice.

When I do get an ear ache it is really bad and it too gets to the point where it seems like getting stabbed in the ear would be a blessing. So hopefully if that happens again I will be able to use the onion juice to stop it in it's tracks.

I appreciate this tip and will be sure to pass it along to friends and family, because little tips like these can really come in handy at times.
