"The Red Cross remains committed to providing the scale of services that people expect of the Red Cross when disaster strikes, and the way that we are doing that right now is taking out loans to fund our response," he said during a conference call from Washington. "That's not a position we want to be in; it's obviously not sustainable."

I don't know what would happen if the Red Cross could no longer help people in emergencies. I have had to have help from them myself several years ago when we got flooded by the river and the creek just a few feet from my house. They helped us get everything cleaned up and provided us with some food which we lost during the flood.
I understand that people just can't give to the Red Cross like we used to due to the hard times the economy has created. But I do hope something can be done to help them help people in need.
