Default New iPhone Gripes

The brand new iPhone 4 was released in June and millions have sold but I guess people have a lot of gripes about this newest version.

Quote:
When unveiling the iPhone 4 in June, Apple CEO Steve Jobs marveled at the "gorgeous" stainless steel casing that surrounds the device and also serves as the phone's antennas. In addition to helping make the phone ultra-thin, the external antenna was supposed to improve the phone's signal strength over previous iPhone models.
I guess one of the biggest problems with it is that the external antenna is located where the red circle is in the picture above. Well if you are holding the phone in your left hand you lose signal significantly.

The iPhones screen is sensored so that when you are actually using it as a phone and have it up to your cheek the screen is supposed to shut off so that you don't actually end your call without meaning to. Apparently the sensor does not work in a lot of the phones and so people are ending calls with their cheeks without meaning to.

I guess they are having some big meeting here this week to examine all of the complaints and come up with solutions.

Do any of you have the iPhone 4 and if so have you experienced problems? If I spent all of that money on a gadget that thing better be problem free!!!

I know this is a stupid question, as I don't have an iPhone, but couldn't you simply turn the phone 180 degrees so you don't have your hand over the antenna?

...or is it made in such a way that the speaker is at one set end?

I do believe that the speaker is at one end of the phone, though you could still turn it 180 degrees and talk as long as you spoke loud enough for the person on the other end to hear you,LOL.

I know I have been hearing a whole lot of people complain about different things about these phones. It's amazing that you spend so much money on new gadgets only to find out soon afterwards that there are a bunch of problems with it.

I don't know about anyone else, but would'nt you think that this company would have tested these phones better before they were allowed to hit the market?

Seems to me that if they did better testing it would have saved them a whole lot of money, customer complaints and of course headaches.

I think that companies are pushing new items into the market before they are properly tested and then as soon as these items are on the market then we all come to find out just how many problems there are with all the new items.

testing, hell, I'm surprised that the design even made it off the drawing board, let alone into production...you would figure with as many people that were probably on the design team, that someone would have caught that.....pretty much common sense, imo..

I was watching some television story this morning and they were talking about all of the complaints having to do with this lastest version of the iPhone. They said that the fix that Apple is proposing to fix the "death grip" people have on their phones causing poor reception is to send everyone who has purchased one what they call a bumper. It's a type of cover that should alleviate reception problems.

People are not happy with that fix though because it will make the phone bulkier. The phone is supposed to be a sleeker design. Thats why people wanted it to begin with.

Please explain to me what moron thought that it would be a good idea to have the antenna placed in the lower portion of the phone where normal people hold ontot heir phones!!!

Maybe I should get a job at Apple. Apparently you don't need any brains at all. lol!

Your right this is one that should not have made it into production. I can imagine that there are a whole lot of people who are gonna wanting their money back if they are sent those so called bumpers.

If people wanted something like that on their phones I am sure that they would have purchased something like that in the first place. It is going to be interesting to see just what the company does to make sure all of it's iPhone customers are happy seeing how they have sent a good deal of money on these new phones.

I'm actually considering purchasing an iPhone, although with some minor hesitation given the above gripes. I really believe in Apple as a company--I love the customer service I've received on the phone as well as in the stores, I think their products are innovative (even though they are ridiculously expensive), and I love how well they all "talk" to each other to make setting up a home network easy to do.

It is disheartening to hear that the iPhone is disappointing so many people, especially since it doesn't matter how great the apps are or how crisp the screen is; an iPhone is a still primarily a phone no matter how you grip, hold, or maddeningly thrash it about. And what is an iPhone without acceptable reception? An iTouch with a really high data bill.

An Iphone is nothing I would be interested in owning at all. A regular cell phone is good enough for my needs and wants.

I have a cell phone that I use for emergencies, like when Im out driving and have car trouble. I also use it for long distance calls to save on my house phone bill.

I wont answer my cell when Im driving, I either hand it to my passenger or find somewhere to pull off the road so that I can safely make a call back.

Whats the big deal about these fancy phones anyway? I dont and wouldnt do half the stuff the phones allow you to do anyway. Plus, they are much more expensive than just a regular cell.

Texting is something I have never done, and dont care to learn. Guess the bottom line here is that when I am out somewhere, I dont want to be bothered with any kind of a phone unless its an emergency. Everything else can wait.

Ahhhh...a lively debate continues

My main reason for the iPhone is to have as many devices as possible packed into one device. I, too, do not like to be bothered by the outside world or reached a moments notice. I do, however, want to have something in my back pocket that will let me jot down ideas when they come to me, look up an answer I don't know, take pictures and video of my kids at a moments notice, and distract them the next time we're in a plane. And, occasionally, I'd like to have a phone conversation once in a while. Yes, they are expensive, but no more than a camera, a video camera, a portable dvd player, etc.

I realize I will never be able to persuade you to join in on the SmartPhone crusade; I just wanted to give you an idea as to why some of us crazy people want one.

Its not just the expense that keeps me from getting one.

I spend most of my day in front of a computer and just wouldnt want something that could even vaguely follow in that mode.

I have no kids at home anymore so no one to entertain, and the phone I do have will do pics as needed.

Videos arent much of an interest to me either.

Plus where I live, we dont always have the service needed to support the phones we have so no Iphone for me. And even if the service would support it, I just wouldnt want one.
