Default Roofing Scam

Rob and I went into town to grab a bite to eat yesterday evening. He noticed a friend of his was in her shop and decided to stop and say HI.

Well while talking to her she got into telling us that after a severe storm had knocked a tree over into her home and did alot of damage.

Well her insurance company would send someone out to access the damage done.

Well apparently when the man came out he said that it was easily fixed and he would take care of it.

Well rather than hiring a roofing company to come out and make the repairs, the gentleman from the insurance company came out with several friends and started working on her roof.

They left holes in the roof that you could easily pass a quarter through and she has had to place a tarp over her roof to protect the interior of her home.

Now when she contacted the insurance company to complain about all of this, she gets a run around and is told that she will have to hire someone to do the work because the insurance company has already paid a company $8,000 to do the repairs.

No company was hired to do the work. The insurance company sent a man out and he decided to do the repairs himself along with a few friends and pocket some the extra money. Problem is that they had no idea what they were doing and messed it all up, and now she may have to pay out of pocket to have the repairs done all over again and have them done right.

I don't know what insurance company she uses but I would sue them. Does she have anything with the name of the persons who did the work?

She should take pictures of the roof and the damages. This way she has proof that it was not done properly.

I am not sure if she has the names of the people who did the work on the roof, though I do know that she has pictures of it all.

She did speak to an attorney about all of this and he apparently informed her that if she tried to take this to the courts she would proably lose, because according to the insurance company the work was done, even though it was not done properly.

Well he needs kicked in the you know what. If she had hired a contractor to do the work without the insurance company she could sue them for shoddy workmanship. Someone needs to get this one right. For all the money we pay for insurance there has to be someway to protect yourself. Has she contacted the better business beareau?

I dont know if she has yet or not Carolb, I made that suggestion to her when we were standing there talking, so hopefully she has and I also hope that they will be able to help her out.

It would truely be horrible having to live in a home that the only thing that is keeping it dry inside were tarps. I hope something is done soon for her, with winter just around the corner and the temp dropping, she needs her roof repaired right away.
