Default Save money on oil changes.

For years we have been told that the oil in our cars needs to be changed every 3,000 miles. But, with todays new synthetic oils, that time frame has changed. And significantly so.

Now with the newer oils, it is recommended that we change the oil in our cars between 7,500 and 10,000 miles.

Here is what is recommended:

Quote:
The 3,000-mile oil change pretty much went out with the Reagan era. In part because of the increased prescription of synthetic oils, which have displaced petroleum-based engine oil, most vehicles built in the last twenty years can go 7,500 to 10,000 miles before a change of oil and oil filter is needed. Drivers are encouraged, though, to monitor oil levels between 5,000 and 10,000 miles to see if some oil should be added. A malfunctioning or poorly maintained engine can burn oil faster than one in proper working order.
So, save yourself some cash and go with the new recommendations as they are safe, you will save cash, and your car will be just fine.

Default Re: Save money on oil changes.

I was just thinking today that it could be a longgg time between oil changes for me as I use my car very little. But most are short trips that tend to add up a lot quicker than what you think and for that reason its a good idea to keep the milage written down when you had the last oil change and check it frequently.

Yearly tuneups are a must too to keep your car in top notch running order and to save gas and money.
