Default Smart Meters

Have any of you heard of Smart Meters? This is first I have heard about them. As part of the $100 billion dollar stimulus plan, 18 million homes in the United States will be installed with these smart meters. The smart meters are to help effectively communicate with utilities and appliances and to help consumers manage their electricity use.

The 18 million meters being distributed only represents about 13% of the meters in use in the United States.

These meters are a part of the governments plan to modernize the electricity grid and improve on energy usage.

They said that most of what we use today for electricity was actually put in place in the early part of last century! They want to upgrade and update transmission lines, substations and meters, allowing wind and solar to help generate the nations electricity.

I think this is a wonderful thing but I do worry about how we are to pay for it!
