Default What is the Future of Big SUV's?

According to CNN Money, suv's will still be needed in 5 to 10 years but they say they need to change. People who crave power and spaciousness have bought up the large suv's, not willing to turn to the smaller car-like models. But now with the cost of fuel rising dramatically, many drivers are rethinking what their needs are.

Quote:
Last month, non-luxury full-size SUV sales plunged 41% compared with last year, according to the Power Information Network, which tracks the auto industry.
Big SUVs aren't going to go away. Car companies still need to cater to their customers' needs while satisfying stricter government requirements and consumers' need for better fuel economy.

I do not drive a big suv but have friends that do. Right now they are sorry they bought the large vehicle due to the high gas prices. They are looking for a cheap small vehicle to use for there everyday running. Suv's won't be going anywhere but they will eventually be modified for better gas mileage and cost efficiency.

It doesnt surprise me at all that the sales are down so much. But I still know people that are driving them and they seem to be the ones that are doing the most complaining about gas prices.

And they also seem to be the ones that just have to get out there and run all the time, so they may want to look into a second, more gas saving vehicle to use every day to keep what the spend on gasoline to a minimum if they choose not to trade in their SUVs.
