Default Budget Cooking

I came across these good recipes on hamburger, that are cheap, and easy to make, I am always looking for new ways to make hamburger, so I thought I would share what I found with all of you.

Sloppy joe

browned the ground beef, onion, and green pepper. I then put the remaining ingredients into a slow cooker and cooked on low for about 3-4 hours. This recipe was really simple & delicious

Porcupines--

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 cup uncooked white rice
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup water

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, rice, 1/2 cup of water and onion. Blend in salt, celery salt, garlic powder and pepper. Mix well. Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the meatballs; drain fat.
In an 11x7 inch baking dish, combine the tomato sauce and 1 cup of water. Place the browned meatballs into the tomato sauce, turning to coat well.
Cover and bake in a preheated oven for 45 minutes. Uncover, and cook for an additional 15 minutes.

Stuffed Peppers

1 pound ground beef
1/2 cup uncooked long grain white rice
1 cup water
6 green bell peppers
2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Place the rice and water in a saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and cook 20 minutes. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the beef until evenly browned.
Remove and discard the tops, seeds, and membranes of the bell peppers. Arrange peppers in a baking dish with the hollowed sides facing upward. (Slice the bottoms of the peppers if necessary so that they will stand upright.)
In a bowl, mix the browned beef, cooked rice, 1 can tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Spoon an equal amount of the mixture into each hollowed pepper. Mix the remaining tomato sauce and Italian seasoning in a bowl, and pour over the stuffed peppers.
Bake 1 hour in the preheated oven, basting with sauce every 15 minutes, until the peppers are tender.

Hint:the green peppers need to be blanched before being put into the oven. Put green peppers into boiling water for 1-2 minutes then quickly put in ice water. Then proceed with recipe as is. Green pepper has a much better consistency this way."

The Porcupines recipe is a good one to cook , and can be frozen for another day.

Hope you enjoy these, they might be foods you have made a thousand times, but with these ones it is the cheaper ways to make them.

Thanks for the recipies. These are all recipies that could be cooked in bulk and the left overs frozen for other meals.

When freezing the leftovers, be sure to put the date that it was frozen on the package and use before it would expire.

Saving money on groceries and their use just takes some time and effort on our part, but it can be done.
