Here are five really good tips to keep that bill down

1.When leaving a room turn out the lights.

2.Moderate the temperature inside by turning the air conditioner or furnace up to five degrees above or below your normal setting.

3.Wash clothes with warm or cold water only.

4.Use products that have the energy star rating.

5.Use products that are have Install insulation to prevent cold and hot air from seeping in and out of the house.

Thanks for the great tips!

I was also reading some good tips for keeping cool this summer without haveing to get a second job! Of course with how the weather has been in my area I don't know if we are going to have to worry about fans and air conditioning this year!

According to what I read, air conditioning can account for 60-70% of your electricity bill during the summer months. Thats a huge amount!

One tip I read was use ceiling fans as much as possible. They make you feel 3-8 degrees cooler and cost less than a penny per hour to run.

It said to make sure the fan is spinning the correct way of course. Usually that is counterclockwise if you are standing under it looking up.

There will be times when you need the ac though. Make sure to keep the filter clean and block off the registers to any rooms that you don't use. This way the more cold air will be forced to the rooms that you use.

You can buy reusable filters for your ac unit. You just wash them with a hose. It's cheaper this way than buying them every month.

It used to be said that it didnt hurt to leave lights turned on in your house but these days you need to turn the lights off when you leave a room.

Also, if you arent using computers, televisions, etc, turn them off and unplug them as some appliances use a bit of electricity even when shut off and the only way to prevent this is to unplug them.

Event the light up numbers on your clocks cause a drain on your electricity so unplug the ones you dont really need to use.

The cost of electricity is going to be going up in our area so we will be cutting back even more in the near future.
