Default BP Oil Spill

Have you guys been watching any of the news having to do with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It is just unbelievable.

This spill may be the the biggest financially that we have ever seen and I can believe that.

BP has estimated that 230,000 tons of crude have already leaked out and it is still leaking!

No one has figured an exact amount that the clean up will cost but there is currently a ten billion dollar cap that an oil company can be expected to pay for a spill. The government is trying to push that cap higher.

The enviromental and economic impact of this is beyond my comprehension. It's astronomical.

It is really sad to me,to see this type of thing happen,as serious as this is,there should have been more done ahead to prepare for things like this if they happen and we would not have such a big disaster on our hands.

Perfect timeing to,like the economy was not hurting enough right now,and hurricane season is right around the corner. What will happen then I wonder?

For weeks now this oil has been flowing into the ocean killing wild life. I am surprised that there were not more things done to help prevent something like this from ever happening.

I mean come on when your working with oil under the ocean there is always the possibility of something going wrong. So before they began why weren't there more precautions taken by the company to prevent spills like this from ever happening or at least have a good plan of action in case something did happen, which of course as we all know that it did happen.

As for the clean up BP can not give back the lives of the animals that have been killed because of this disaster!!! And I believe that they should be paying for the ENTIRE clean up!!!

Our economy is in sad shape enough and this is something that this country really doesn't need to deal with. Yet we will all end up paying for BP's mistake!!!

The ramifications are even further reaching than just the ones mentioned above.

In the gulf states, fishermen cant fish so their go their incomes. Then there are the many beaches that cannot be used because of this massive oil spills. And this means less business for the hotels and restaurants located in the beach areas.

Then there will most likely be job losses because of the big decrease in businesses located near the beaches. What will the government do to help these people when their jobs are gone?

And yes, BP should foot the bill for this one as it was their rig that caused the problem and they should have had the foresight to put a plan into action that would cover any possible accidents of this kind.

This is a catastophy in itself and does not seem to be getting much better anytime soon for most of us,in fact a lot of us will not feel or see the oil for some time yet.

As large as the spill is all along the east coast will eventually see the oil on their beaches. This is really sad for all of the wild life and animals that live along the coast.

They are now saying that this spill is quite larger that the Valdez spill was and that one was awfull.

I have just read this weekend where because of the impending hurricane season that this spill may go on until August.

Can you imagine the gallons of crude that will be spilling into our oceans by that time? And why would it be let go until then? We have plenty of time in between the hurricanes and tropical depressions etc for them to work on getting this spill under control.

And another question, why wasnt there more safety measures taken when the rig was built and the well drilled to prevent such a catastrophy as this?

Economically, this is going to be very damaging for all the gulf states as the beaches cant be used, fishermen cant make a living and the tourist trade there will suffer a gigantic loss this season because of this horrendous oil spill.

They just said this morning that they were going to try capping it again and that they were going to use heat to keep the stuff from freezing this time.

Maybe this will work or at the least slow it down a lot.The hurricane season is almost here and We are all along the east coast going to be hating it even more than we are now if they do not fix the problem soon.

The hurricane season brings another question to mind. With the hurricanes come the extremely high winds and tides so what will all this oil being washed ashore during a hurricane do to the local vegetation and trees?

And they are thinking about more off shore drilling? Come on now. This planet of ours can only take so much abuse.

Because of the hurricanes, there will have to be even more money spent to handle the massive cleanup needed to undo the damage that will be done. And BP should have to pay for it all.

And perhaps now would be a good time for all the rigs to be properly inspected and further safety measures put into effect to keep this from happening again.

I can not believe the luck that they are having in the gulf with the oil spill.

Today their saw got stuck, now they are sending another one down to finish the job hopefully.

I can not believe the problems that they are having with this issue, there should have been better back up plans before they were even allowed to drill to begin with if you ask me.
