Chrysler Closes Their Doors
The Chrysler company will officially close their doors at the end of the business day on Friday and will not reopen until January 19, 2009. Production at all thirty of the business's plants will come to a complete halt and workers will not work until next month when they reopen. Chrysler is stating the reason for this temporary shutdown is the lack of consumer credit.
The slowed consumer credit has kept people from purchasing new vehicles and has really hurt Chrysler's sales.
The company does normally have a shutdown from December 24 to January 5th for the Holidays but will be extending this by two weeks this time.
46,000 workers will be affected by these turn of events. They will still have a check coming to them during this time from contributions from Chrysler and unemployment benefits but it will not amount to their regular pays.
The company says they have plenty of buyers for their vehicles but the people cannot get the financing they need to close the deal.
