Default New Oil Pipeline in the Works

Gas is now $3.00 a gallon where I live and it's only going to get higher. Thats one of the reasons the government is considering expanding the oil sands that comes from Alberta Canada.

The pipeline currently stops in Oklahoma and is the source of most of the United State's oil supply. They pump one million barrels a day to us.

Here is a map that shows the proposed expansion.

Enviromentally this oil sand isn't friendly. Extra steps have to be taken to get this oil because it is a mixture of oil and sand. Throughout the process this oil emits 5% to 30% more carbon dioxide than regular oil.

Some feel that this expanded pipeline is the answer and others feel that finding alternative energy that is eco-friendly is better to concentrate on.

I personally would like to see a more eco friendly fuel better than the use of oil. Though that just seems to be an impossible dream for the time being.

If this fuel is going to help our country more, then I say go for it. I mean what it is going to take to put the lines in, check the lines and monitor them carefully the number of jobs is going to increase drastically and that is something that is really needed here right now.

I would actually like to see more of this countries money stay with in the country instead of being spent in others. Though I guess it is only one step at a time.

I'd also like to see a more eco-friendly way to fuel our vehicles and heat our homes and so on but right now, this is it. And now, gas is well over $3.00 a gallon. I cannot afford this.

I got an email from a friend today that says we actually have a wealth of oil in the ground. The area covers about 2/3 of North Dakota, Western South Dakota and Eastern Montana. It is known as Bakken.

It says that there is more than enough oil there to completely eliminate America's dependency on foreign oil and it's enough to last us 2,041 years!

It says that if we tapped into this oil we could buy it for $16 a barrel!!!!!

The reason it has not been tapped is because of enviromentalists.

How do you feel about this?

I can see both sides of this. I love nature and we have done so much to destroy it already. But in this day and age can we not find a way to get the oil without the destruction of land and wildlife? Can you imagine the benefits of this? (if it's true of course)

Quote:
Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the
largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels.
On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a
half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload
of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?
They reported this stunning news: We have more oil inside our borders,
than all the other proven reserves on earth.. Here are the official
estimates:
- 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
- 18-times as much oil as Iraq
- 21-times as much oil as Kuwait
- 22-times as much oil as Iran
- 500-times as much oil as Yemen
- and it's all right here in the Western United States .

HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the
environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become
independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate
our lives and our economy.....WHY?
