Default Auto workers to be idle for a month.

Chrysler is closing all of its North American plants for a month while they wait for word about government loans.

Chrysler is also talking with GM about combining the two companies.

Chrysler, GM, and Ford are struggling to survive the recession with sales here in the US having dropped to the lowest in 26 years.

Lack of consumer credit is causing quite a fall in the amount of automobile sales as of late. There are plenty of buyers who want to buy new cars, but with lending as tight as it is, they just cant close the deals.

The laid off workers will be able to collect unemployment benefits plus supplemental unemployment benefits which woll maintain much of employees weekly paychecks.

But, even with that, its still a very scary situation.
