Economy hitting small towns hard.
In Benwood, West Virginia, the mayor there isnt looking forward to seeing another empty building, but it seems like that will be exactly what will happen since Value City filed for bankruptcy.
The sad part in this situation is that just across the street is the now empty Ames Hardware store, and the empty Payless Shoe Store.
Although Value City filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the Value City Furniture Stores were not included in this filing, because they are owned by another company.
Stephen Darr, Chief Executive Officer said that the current state of the economy is to blame for the closing of these stores. 75 Value City stores have closed nation wide since December.
Darr is also asking for "going out of business sales" at all the remaining stores.
This will be very hard on all of the employees that will be losing their jobs because of the store closings. They still have mortgages to pay and children to raise and jobs in our immediate area are hard to come by these days.
