Default Economy may effect the post office deliveries.

According to the latest reports, the United States Postal Service may be the next to be effected as the economy worsens. This means that instead of mail delivery being 6 days a week as it is now, the delivery of mail will be cut back to 5 days per week.

Boeing Airlines has laid off 10,000 employes, with Starbucks Coffee not far behind with their layoff of 6,700 employees. Starbucks are also planning on closing 300 stores.

The Post Master General is asking to drop Tuesday's mail delivery, the lightest delivery day. The reason behind all of this is a very high decline of mail. The amount of mail is down by 9 billion pieces from last year.

The post office was in the red last year in the amount of 2.8 billion dollars. Potter said if it does have to come to a 5 day a week delivery, then it won't be for a while. It would have to be approved by the postal governing board. It could save the postal service up to 3.5 billion dollars a year.

May is going to be the next postal rate increase. The increase in stamps will be announced next month.

This will happen more n more as we see more things paid or done on the internet. It has cut down on mailing except for packages. That and the price of stamps.

Just about everyone has access to the internet these days and I know even for myself that now I rarely send out a piece of mail. I pay my bills on line, chat with friends and family online. I don't have much of a need for snail mail anymore. Most of the mail I receive is junk mail.

Well this is bad news for postal employees. They make and hourly wage. This will affect the amount of money they have to spend too.

I know that times are hard and things just keep dropping off and disappearing and I hate to see this happen. I recently lost the post office in my town. I have lived here fourteen years and it had always been here. Now I have to drive to get my mail instead of walking. I hate it.

I haven't heard anything else on this subject. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it now?
