Default Electronic License Plates with Digital Ads

I just read that legislators in California are considering introducing electronic license plates that offer digital advertising space for those who choose to pay for it. They are considering this because it would create jobs and also bring in money for the state.

Quote:
Sen. Curren Price, a Democrat from the Los Angeles area, said the technology will resemble traditional license plates, with plate numbers visible at all times. However, digital ads and public service announcements would flash on the plate's screen when the vehicle is stopped for more than a few seconds.
I don't know how I'd feel about that. I mean would we get to choose what is advertised? If not then I wouldn't like it at all. I wouldn't want to drive my kids around with a viagra ad displayed lol. Nothing against Viagra but still. How would you feel about this?

Well, for one thing, I imagine that there wouldnt be a lot of people that could afford plates such as these, but if they advertised jobs that people could apply for then it would be okay.

But then again, one would have to consider safety on the roadways with these new plates. People would be searching for pen and paper to write down phone numbers. And to me this would not be a safe situation. Especially in California.

In Los Angeles they have two speeds, "wide open" or "dead stop", and I guess during the traffic jams they would have plenty of time to write down numbers.

Oh hell no, I would not be driving around with a tampon ad beaming across my license plate. Lol

How about the safety of these things? People should be paying attention to what's going on around them in traffic, and not some license plate ad..

I agree with you last two...neon license plates should be illegal. I find myself looking at what the colors are or if there's some writing on them.
Yeah, they do look cool, but those electronic license plates are a road hazard to all motorists...dumb idea if you ask me.
