Default Federal Wage Freeze

Hey President Obama doing something that I agree with!

He has proposed a federal wage freeze for all civilian federal workers which means that it's for everyone except for those in the military.

This freeze would save $60 million dollars over the next ten years.

Thats just a drop in the bucket compared to the deficit but it would help.

Quote:
The freeze would not apply to military personnel, but would apply to all civilian federal employees, including those working at the Department of Defense. Approximately 2 million federal workers will be affected, according to the Office of Management and Budget.
Quote:
"This freeze is not to punish federal workers or to disrespect the work that they do," the White House said in a statement. "It is the first of many actions we will take in the upcoming budget to put our nation on sound fiscal footing -- which will ask for some sacrifice from us all."
If you ask me it's about time that they are included in the cuts and freezes like the rest of us deal with all the time.

I have to say that this does sound like a great idea. Though there is more that we can do to help get this counrtry back on track. There are many jobs in the government that are not at all needed. Getting rid of those worthless jobs could be eliminated and that would save everyone a good deal of money every year.

Also there are some seriously high paid people who could use a pay cut rather than a freeze to save us all a whole lot of money in the long run.

Pay freezes is a good idea, but there is so much more that can be done regarding pays that would help this country bounce back. These are the things that need to be done. This country wastes to much money and it is about time that is stopped.

We really need to take care of this country, before we worry about anyone else's!!!

Well guess what... the proposal went through. The freeze is on.

Quote:
It's official: Federal workers won't be getting a pay increase for the next two years, despite the best efforts of the unions that represent them.
Quote:
"We are suffering the same hardships as many across the nation as a result of the recession, and it's unfair and unfortunate that Congress has chosen to single these folks out," said William Dougan, president of the National Federation of Federal Employees.
You know what, I don't know of a single federal worker who is having a hard time putting a meal on the dinner table. I don't know of a single one who drives a jalopy that may break down at any given moment. I know lots of regular folks that do have those problems though. So please don't ask me to feel bad about it. Being a part of the government is supposed to be a PRIVELAGE not a right. I guess they will have to take one less vacation this year and maybe down size their limo! Give me a break. I don't even want to hear it. I wish I made their kind of money sitting on my ass all day long!
