Default GM, Ford, and Chrysler cars that should have been.

This is the Ford Prodigy which is a hybrid car developed by Ford Motors back in the 90s. The Ford Prodigy, even though it is only a partly electric car gets 70 miles to the gallon.

This is a car that is big enough to be a family car and is very aerodynamic and also very lightweight. And is supposedly very affordable to produce.

The GM Precept, shown here, was developed in 1993 during which time, the government had given around $240M in research money to the Big3 for research to find more energy efficient automobiles.

Chrysler had also come up with plans for a hybrid that would also get 80mpg, but the Big 3 opted for SUVs instead of mass producing the more fuel efficient cars.

When you consider that the SUVs usually get around 20mpg highway miles, the savings with the hybrids we could have been driving is unbelievable.

Hybrids cause less pollution than their SUV counterparts, save on fuels, and if they had been mass produced, would we be in the fix we are now? Would gas prices have ended up being around $4 a gallon? I think not.

Now we have to pay taxes on money given to the Big3 to do what with? The Big3 have the plans for these fuel saving automobiles, so why not bring out the plans, update them a little and start production?
