Default Saturday postal delivery quandry.

The postal service is opting to not deliver mail on Saturdays which would supposedly save them around $3.1B. But some people are skeptical about this move.

Ruth Goldman who is the Chairman of the Postal Regulatory Commission is one of the ones that are skeptical about this move.

Ms Goldman does not think that the savings would be as large as projected, and that this move will make the mail less viable.

Also, Ms Goldman thinks that now is not the time to do away with Saturday mail delivery as it would also do away with over 40,000 jobs, and at this time, we need all the jobs we do have.

The 4 unions that represent postal employees also oppose this plan.

This would be such a bad thing if it happened,so many people would loose their jobs and come on the mail takes long enough now.If they quit delivering on Saturday there would be no telling when we would get our mail.

People send more stuff now a days than they did a while back and you always hear of the post offices being flooded with mail and with all of the dangers that can come in the mail.If there were less employees then more of it would be able to get through.

I hope that they will continue to deliver mail on Saturday because mail would really get backed up and probably lost more if it quits delivering on Saturday.Think about it.

You are right, it takes the mail long enough to get here as it is. A letter from the west coast to Ohio can take as long as 5 days to get here. Will cutting Saturday deliveries lengthen that time?

Its supposed to be business as usual at the post offices on Saturdays with just the rural people not getting delivery, but then there will go another 40,000 jobs, and we do not need anymore people in the unemployment lines.

There has to be other ways for the postal service to cut costs. We just cannot afford the job loss.
