The Big3 bailout.
President Bush has stated that the bailout money so badly needed is in the works. Bush has also stated that if the Big3 would file for bankruptcy, that it would be devastating to the now shaky economy.
The Bush administration is working to find ways to provide emergency help to GM and Chrysler, who say they could be without money in the next few weeks if the government doesnt help them.
Yet, Ford says it has enough money to survive 2009.
When you consider the fact that some of the Big3 have layoffs of around 8 weeks a year for "Changeovers", and that the laid off employees still collect their paychecks during this time, you have to come to the conclusion that some internal restructuring would be in order.
This amount of money paid out to laid off employees would stand as part of the problem of the companies not having enough cash to make it on their own. By elimination such programs as these, and letting those employees collect unemployment or make it on their savings for those 8 weeks, the savings for the companies would be a great one.
Granted, the demise of any of the Big3 would be detrimental to the economy, but internal restructuring would seem to me to alleviate some of the current problems.
