This is the biggest insurance company in the world. It began doing business in China in after world war two.
One of their very first insurances was to say that twenty boats would make it back to the United States safely. I am going to guess that this was somewhat of a risky venture.
They are currently worth one trillion in assets and are run by Maurice Greenburg. They are bigger than Fannie Mae and Merrill Lynch.
This compananies subsidiaries sell life insurance, auto insurance ecetera. In the area of finance they serve pension funds and investment banks. This company seems to have its fingers into a little bit of everything.
AIG recently asked the Feds for help and got it. The Wall Street mess has caused some concern for this company as well as many others.
