Default Young drivers and auto insurance.

I don't believe that it is fair that young drivers have to pay so much more for auto insurance. I think that they are considered reckless and are blamed for far too many accidents.

I have seen seasoned drivers do some of the most ridiculous things while driving. I have ridden with my 21 year old son and 4 times already he has avoided accidents that were the cause of another driver.

We had several incidents were people did not stop at the stop sign and just drove right out in front of us. He avoided it and saved our lives and the lives of those people.

We have had deer jump in front of us and he did well with that too. I just don't think that the industry has it right. We need to re-evaluate what is truly going on and take it from there. Overcharging young drivers due to the risk isn't right they should start charging the idiots on the road who have grown overconfident and reckless.

Your are correct that there are seasoned drivers who really shouldn't be allowed behind the road.

However I have seen many (well way to many) teenaged drivers do things that are the reason why their insurance costs are so high!

I do believe the industry has it correct for charging young drivers higher insurance costs. Now I am not saying that every 16 year old is a reckless driver because we all know that isn't true.

I have a 16 year old neice who is more responsible than most adults that I know and she is going to make an excellent driver. The problem is that there are just to many 16 year olds who believe that they own the road and they tend to make way to many mistakes.

There is no such thing as a perfect driver. EVERYONE makes mistakes, which is why everyone else on the road has to be prepared for the mistakes of others as well as their own.

I wonder what the statistics are for young drivers that have taken drivers ed and had accidents as opposed to those that dont take it.

Another unfair shake that the young people get insurance wise is that boys pay more for their insurance than girls do, simply because they are believed to drive much faster. And this is unfair because there are young girls out there that can put them to shame speed wise.

And something else, young girls are more prone to talking on cell phones and texting than the boys are. So maybe allowances should be considered and made for both.

And I agree, some teens are natural drivers and do exceedingly well when on the road while others are just plainly too wreckless.

One thing I can not stand is to see some moron on the phone while driving. This should be illegal in ALL states and if your caught talking or texting while driving then your insurance needs to seriously go up because those who do this are road hazards in my opinion.

Now if someone is driving and using a hand free set then that is alright because that is like talking to a passenger in your car. However holding a phone to talk or text is just to dangerous.

Some states have already make it illegal to talk (with out a hands free set) or text on a cell phone while driving and don't understand why all states aren't behind this. I know in my area if this becomes illegal then the cops around here are seriously going to be busy pulling people over!!!

As for the statistics on those who took drivers ed to those who didn't I wasn't able to find. Though I am sure that they are listed out there some where I just didn't look in the right place I guess.
