Despite what the calendar says, it seems we've turned the corner into summer. The pool in my town is open, the kids are itching to get to camp, and more often than not, we're cooking dinner on the grill.
We also have vacation on the brain. My family is lucky; we live within a short drive of a few nice beaches, so we're still planning to make the trip this year, despite the strain of high gas prices. But many people don't have that luxury, and are instead sticking close to home and enjoying what's been coined a "staycation.

These are some really great ideas. However I would never do the house swap thing. Not that I have alot of valuables but Just knowing that a stranger is staying in my home makes me alittle creapie.
This year my husband and I are going camping for a week. The kids are all adults and we are getting away for the first time for a week that is not a family emergency alone. Its been 26 years and I need a break and we love camping.

There are some really good ideas here. Taking time to relax is very important to us, both mentally and physically. I think instead of taking a vacation this year, we will just do some day trips in our area that will do the trick. Plus my husband and I both enjoy fishing, so we will probably do a lot of that. I find just being near the water is very relaxing for me.

Default Vacation

Here in Ohio where I live, within a hundred miles, we have all of the following we could do.

The Football Hall of Fame is in Canton, Ohio, 84 miles away, also The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Canton, plus the Hard Rock Cafe is there too.

A little closer to home, about 15 miles is Wheeling Park, and Oglebay, with their mansion, petting zoo etc.

In July, we have Jamboree in the Hills within 15 miles of here. This is a week long event where country music stars come to entertain. They have plenty of hotels in the area, plus several areas in which to park campers, RVs etc.

Also within 20 miles, is Sally Buffalo Park where you can camp or park RVs etc. Then there is Barkcamp, with a huge lake, boating, walking trails, camping areas for tents, campers, RVs etc.

Within 50 miles, we have Tappan Lake, Clendinnin Lake, and Piedmont Lake. They all have marinas, swimming areas, camping areas, and cabins to rent. And fishing.

In Pittsburgh, which is a 45 minute drive from here, you have Hines field.

Within 200 miles, you have Idlewild Park, and Kings Island.

And this is just to name a few of the things that Ohio has to offer within just a few miles of my house. So you could rent a cabin at one of the lakes and spend a week just sight seeing.

Later in the Fall we have the Pumpkin Festival in Barnesville, Ohio. Within a half hours drive from here. Plus we have the Italian Festival to attend in Wheeling this summer.

So theres lots of options for a vacation without driving hundreds of miles or spending a fortune on a vacation.

yes people always think that they have to travel hundred and or thousands of miles away from home to enjoy greatness but like the saying goes never look in farther then you own back yard because some of the greatest wonders are there
