Default A New Car

My old man is thinking of getting a new car. His car has only had very minor problems and he is thinking that something serious is about to happen and wants to avoid that.

I don't like this idea because his car is in great shape, he has always taken great care of the car and I think this would just be another payment that he would have to make every month for years.

Now I would think that it might be a good idea if he has previously had serious problems with the car. The worst thing that has happened to the car was he had to have the brakes and rotors replaced. That isn't a big deal.

What do you all think that he should do? I mean am I wrong in my thinking?
