Default Car Repairs

I know that one thing that is really expensive these days are car repairs, and man can they seriously be expensive.

The wheel bearing on my man's car is going and is scheduled to go into the garage tomorrow to be repaired and it is going to cost him anywhere from $150.00 to $350.00!!

Thankfully we have the money to pay for the repairs, but still that is a whole lot of money to spend on something that isn't that difficult to repair.

Now I am really wishing that we had a garage here so that I could just do the dang work myself and save us this money. However we don't and I am not laying out there in the cold snow taking care of this.

I will say one thing, this has been the first time he has needed to have something fixed on this car and he has had it now for 5 years, so that isn't bad at all.

Update.

The car is now fixed and it ended up costing him over $400.00 and it took them 2 days to finally get it done.

I am just glad that it is done and over with and hopefully we won't have anymore trouble with it for quite a while. He is actually worried that something else is going to go wrong with it and is considering just trading it in on something more new.

If he does this he will most likely go for something that is a 2010 model rather than 2011. I really don't want him to do this as his car is paid off and he owns it free and clear.

What is your opinion on all of this? Do you think he should keep the car he has (that he hasn't had much trouble with at all) or should he trade it in and take on car payments again??

Personally if the vehicle is sound and not extremely old I would keep it. I have a new car a 2009 and it has a check engine light on at the moment. This means time in the shop.

The good thing about a newer model is that if it is under warranty you won't have to pay for repairs. Although making repairs on the one you have may be cheaper in the long run as you are not making monthly payments.

You could just set aside so much a month for an emergency such as this and it will probably be less than what a car payment would be. Good Luck either way.
