Default Don't Like Hybrids?... Other Stylish Choices

If you don't like the styles of hybrids, there are many other eco-friendly choices.

Scion xB- The Scion xB offers 22 miles per gallon city driving and 28 highway. It is a five-speed automatic with a 158-hp 2.4-liter DOHC I4 engine. It sells for $17,220 and seats five spaciously and room for luggage. You could drive approximately 400 miles before needing to stop for gas.

VW Rabbit Coupe- The VW Rabbit Coupe sells for about $17,325. It gets 22 mpg/29 mpg. It has an 170-hp 2.5-liter DOHC I5 engine and is a five speed manual transmission. It seats up to 5 and is proof that compact can still be comfortable.

Saturn Vue XE- This one will run you about $21,707. You will get 19 mpg/26 mpg. The engine is a 169-hp 2.4-liter DOHC I4. It is a four speed automatic which seats five. This is an suv that gets decent gas mileage. It is a good value.

Pontiac Solstice- This is a sporty, stylish ride. It costs about $21,614 and seats only two. But boy is it pretty! It offers 19 mpg/25 mpg and a 173-hp 2.4-liter DOHC I4 engine. It has a five speed manual transmission. This os one of the lowest priced convertibles in America.

Chevrolet Corvette Convertible- This convertible offers 16 mpg/26 mpg, 430-hp 6.2-liter OHV V-8 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. It will run you about $51,545 and seats two. This baby may be well worth the bragging rights!

Vespa LX- This little motorbike seats two and gets 80 miles per gallon! It only goes up to 28 miles per hour but who can complain with the great gas mileage! It will cost you about $3,199 and has 50cc SOHC 1-cyl engine and an automatic transmission.

I would really like to have to corvette convertible but I think the Vespa is closer to my price range LOL!

I have a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron and can match any of those mileages mentioned for the cars you have posted about. Total cost of car, $600, so you might say I got an all around great deal.

I keep my oil changed and have a yearly tuneup done on my car. And in fact, this car beats the top gas milage you mentioned. I get 30 mpg highway. So I sure cant complain about this car.

My husband and his mother went to South Carolina last week in a 1995 GEO Prism which is made by Chevrolet. It is a 4 cylinder car with a 5 speed manual transmission, and they got 36 mpg highway miles. So it doesnt take new to get great gas milage, it takes looking aroung and comparison shopping to get the best deal on cars that are gas savers, plus how well you care for that engine helps too.

For sure, an engine will only perform as well as you care for it. This list was just to show some of the new options out there. There are of course many other vehicles available, new or used, that can offer good gas mileage.

My very first car was a Chrysler Lebaron. I loved that little car. I would have to say it was one of the best cars I have owned. It was "old" when I bought it but it purred like a kitty and was easy on fuel. I sure do miss her now! LOL
