Default Government program, cash for clunkers

Cash for Clunkers is a new government program that was put in effect to help get the gas guzzling automobiles, trucks, and suvs off the road. And will be in effect until November 1st, 2009 or until funds run out.

In this program, if your car or truck or Suv qualifies, you take the vehicle to a car dealer for a tradein. But the old vehicle has to be scrapped.

Some of the qualifications include, vehicle must be less than 25 years old on date of trade in. Must have been insured and registered for the last year. And get 18mpg or less.

All other pertinent information can be found at car.gov Just go to that site and click on fuel economy.gov to see if your vehicle qualifies.

There is always a catch LOL You can get from $3000 up to $7,500 for your old cars. The big catch is for the $7,500 you car or truck has to get 100 mpg LOL... And you have to use the voucher they give you on a trade in, and they one up are giving up has to be demolished by the ones who buy it.

I couldnt figure that one out. If your car gets 100mpg, why would you trade it in?

My sweeties parents decided to take their car in for this cash for clunkers deal. Their car met the requirements, though when they went in to a dealership they were told that the car that they brought in could NOT be taken.

The reason was because the car had been altered. It was an audi though I dont know the year. These cars orginally have a gas powered motor in them.

Though his parents removed that motor and replaced it with a motor that runs on diesel fuel, and because of this alteration to the car, they were turned away.

I think that if a car meets the requirements altered or not, it should be accepted!!

I thought that the idea behind this whole cash for clunkers deal was to help the people and the enviroment in getting the gas guzzlers off the roads, but apparently I was mistaken on that part.

The cash for clunkers program ends monday. It leaves many of us as consumers very frustrated.

Firstly many vehicles weren't accepted. So many of us were unable to take advantage of the program. There were also other rules. Like you had to have insurance on the car before hand.

Many of the dealerships were also upset by the limitations that were in place. They could have done alot more business.

Quote:
But the administration needed to put a halt to the program to avoid surpassing the $3 billion funding level. Consumers were on pace to exhaust the program's coffers in early September, and many of the most popular fuel-efficient cars are in short supply. In addition, some dealers have complained about long delays in getting reimbursed for the car incentives.
This is what you need to have if you plan on beating the end of this program.
  • Personal identification, such as a driver's license.
  • The title of the trade-in vehicle.
  • Proof of continuous insurance for the past 12 months. You may use consecutive proof-of-insurance cards or a letter from your insurance agent on company letterhead.
  • Proof of continuous registration for the past 12 months.
