Honda Recalling Thousands of Vehicles

Hey this is a heads up for any of you who may have purchased a Honda. The Honda Motor Company is recalling 440,000 vehicles because they have a defective airbag and it could cause major injury or death.

The recalled vehicles are 2001-2002 Honda Accord, 2001 Civic and 2002-2003 Acura TL. If you or anyone that you know have one of these vehicles you need to take your vehicle (or have them take their vehicle) to a Honda dealer right away so that the problem may be fixed.

The problem with it is the driver side air bag 's inflator is faulty.

The airbag inflators may over-pressurize the inflator mechanism as the airbag is deploying, which could cause the inflator casing to rupture, according to Honda. As a result the carmaker said, "Metal fragments could pass through the cloth airbag cushion material, possibly causing an injury or fatality to vehicle occupants."

A recall notice has been sent out to owners but I worry that if that vehicle has since changed hands, it may take too long for the current owner to find out so pass the word.

According to a Honda spokesman, this defect has caused six injuries and one death.

Wow, this is some scary news. My sweetie works as a mechanic and I just informed him of all this, he also appreciates the heads up on this. Now if he sees one of these cars come to his garage he will be able to inform the owners of this problem.

I am however surprised that it took Honda so long (6 injuries and 1 death) before they issued this recall. I do hope that there will not be anymore injuries caused by this faulty airbag.
