Sears "Buyer Protection Program".
Sears realizes that the economy has more people putting off the purchase of major appliances, but they have implemented a plan called the "Buyer Protection Program".
Sears already has in force a "Best Price Gurantee" which ensures customers that they are getting the best possible deal on new appliances etc, but a lot of customers were still hesitant about spending a lot of money on new appliances.
With the "Buyer Protection Program", any appliance that costs $399 or over and is bought with a Sears card, is covered under the plan.
If a customer is laid off, 60 days after the purchase and up to one year after the purchase date, Sears will credit one twelfth of the purchase back to their Sears Card every month.
This guarantee also covers costs associated with the purchase, including, extended warranties, the maintainance agreement, protection and service agreements, and delivery, and even haul-away, plus installation and sales tax.
If the person is still unemployed one year after buying the appliance, they will get a credit to their account for the remaining purchase amount. And still get to keep the appliance.
Plus, there is no additional charge for the program.
The 60day period of employment after the purchase was agreed upon to keep people from taking advantage of the plan. Which is an excellent idea because there are people out there that would ruin a good thing for others just by taking advantage of a plan that was put in force to help people through rough times.
This 60 day period keeps people that know of an upcoming layoff in advance from making the purchase in time to beat the layoff.
But if you want to make a purchase and have it covered under the "Buyer Protection Program", you have to do it before August 1st.
It is not known at this point in time if Sears will extend this plan or not.
