Default Unclaimed Money

Have you ever searched to see if you had any unclaimed money out there?

You can search on the internet to find out if you have any money rightfully yours that you can claim. Typically it would be payroll checks from a job that you no longer have or dormant savings or checking accounts. Things of that nature.

I did research for myself not too long ago but I came up dry. I did however find some unclaimed funds for a few of my relatives!

Quote:
It’s one of those money dreams: A deceased relative had unclaimed property, which you suddenly turn up and recoup.

Billions of dollars are out there waiting to be claimed – everything from dormant savings or checking accounts and safe deposit boxes to unredeemed stocks, payroll checks, money orders, insurance payments, and annuities. Just for US savings bonds, the Treasury Department each year has 25,000 interest payments returned as undeliverable.
I would suggest that you do the searching on your own at least at first. There are companies that will do the footwork for you but many times their fees pile up so much you don't end up with anything at all.

Two main places for you to look at are the US Treasury and the national Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators.

Default Re: Unclaimed Money

I didn't have a clue that I had unclaimed funds from the very first job that I ever had. Granted it wasn't much money but it was helpful.

To claim the money I had to send in a photo copy of my drivers license, proof of address (something that had the address from where I was living when I was working for this company) and something else I believe though not positive on that one.

It wasn't hard to claim the money and I am glad that it was brought to my attention because when I found out about that I really needed a bit of extra money to get household ends to meet. So it was like perfect timing.
