Default Utility Mistake

Finally I have gotten a mistake taken care of from the electric company. I was totally and completely in shock when I opened up the electric bill this month.

They wanted to charge me $119,000 !!!! I damn near passed out when I saw that amount. Of course when I called the company I got the run around and they kept telling me to call back, then it was call back again and again.

Finally today the probem was taken care off and I paid my bill which was only $99.00.

They could not even tell me what the problem was or why there was such an error on their part. I am just glad I didn't have to pay the original amount!!! There is no way I could have afford that bill.

Wow dimtime...when I first looked at that number I thought it was only $119, then I looked again and saw the three zeros after it.
Needless to say, I would be making some phone calls too and not stop until that was cleared up.

Lucky you. I few months ago i got sent a bill for 500 dollars. I did pass out hahaha. I had no idea why they were charging me this much. So i called them several times and got put on hold and i was told to call back. Its an endless process. The bad thing was their so stubbern and hard headed, I had to pay it and there was no reason for it to be that high what so ever. So I'm glad to hear you got your taken care of, some of us are that fortunate.

Where abouts do you live? I know for Pennsylvania, there is a agency called the "public utility commission" that provides oversight to all of the utility companies in the state. So basically, if you have an issue such as yours that the utility co. won't resolve, you can file a complaint with this "PUC" and they will basically force them to resolve this issue.

I would think that most all states has some sort of agency such as this....

I also know that here you can get this little box type thing you plug into your way. Its basically like prepaid electicty. You put like 50 bucks on it and everyday you can look at it and see how much youve used and how much you have left.

I had never seen or even heard of this before but I thought it was very cool and a way to help save on money. It tells you everything like how much money you've used in water, lights, and etc. I'm not exactly sure how much you would have to put on it for a month but you can put some on it one day then when its running low you can put some more on it. No surprise bill because you've already paid for it. It's very neat.

That sounds like it would be a good idea Rae. That is something that would save people money because then there would be no use to pay an employee to come out and read meters.

The start of this idea was to help those who were high risk customers. Though this is something that would be beneficial to more than just those who are high risk.

Here is some more information on this prepaid utilities that you might find interesting to read. Check out the link below.
