Working from Home Can Reduce Costs
The workplace has already seen significant changes during the first decade of the 21st century, and experts predict that we haven’t seen the last of them yet. Not only are portfolio careers growing in popularity, but with the opportunities available through today’s technology and with the need to cut costs, more and more businesses are open to the idea of their employees working from home for part, if not all, of the working week.
Working from home, of course, offers some significant financial benefits, such as cutting out or reducing costs associated with:
• Fuel and parking
• Lunches
• The purchase of work clothes
• Child-care fees
In addition, however, it also helps to create a much healthier work/life balance. With no need for long, time-wasting commutes, you may be able to free up several hours each day for more pleasurable or family-related pursuits. If you have children, then you will have far greater flexibility to choose your working hours to fit around their activities.
One of the slightly more hidden benefits of working from home comes in the form of higher productivity. Without the distractions that most of us suffer in an office environment, home workers typically find that they get through their work more quickly and that their output is of better quality.
If your job lends itself to working from home and you think it might suit you, raise the issue with your boss. You might find that he or she is more amenable to it than you think!
