Your Home and Retirement
Many people have relied on their home as their best long-term investment, but in the present housing market is this still reliable? I recently read an article that has me really reconsidering this as a viable way to insure my future.
The first problem is will my home sell at all in this market? If it does sell, will it bring enough cash to cover buying a new home, doing any needed repairs on that home, covering the cost of moving, etc? I'm afraid not, not in this present housing market, and what will the market be when I do retire? Hopefully it will be much better than it is at the present time, but I'm now worried that it may not be.
I've got to really tighten my belt and put more cash aside for my retirement. I thought I'd be ok when that time came, but now I'm wondering if I will be, and I'm wondering how many Americans will be in trouble when they retire. I see a lot of older Americans in the work force, simply because the changes in our economy in recent years and months have adversely affected our retirement plans.
