NEW YORK (AP) - The stock market rose Wednesday as investors awaited the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates and its assessment of the economy.

Most investors expect the central bank to again lower its benchmark fed funds rate, this time by a quarter point, to 2 percent. However, many also believe policymakers will signal their intention to put rates on hold to fight inflation. The Fed is scheduled to announce its decision at 2:15 p.m. EDT.

I guess the market assumes that the next rate cut will help the economy more than the rate cuts in the past. But this will be the last cut for a while so they better make the most of it.
