ten state co2 auction
By the need to reduce acid rain emissions the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative is expecting to cap then reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions from the power sector by ten percent by the year 2018.
Phil Adams who is the chief operating officer of World Energy says the company will be executing an auction for the 10 states. These 10 states will be comming together to come up with a regional soulution.
The United States trading of CO2 takes place on a voluntary basis. This is on the Chicago Climate Exchange. This process is expected to gain the attention of enviromental groups, Wall Street players as well as power companies, and others who have intrests in investing in carbon credits.
Those states which are taking part in this RGGI auction are New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont,New Jersey and Delaware.
Proceeds gained from this auction will be used for prograns which will improve the efficiency of renewable energy along with other technologies of clean energy.
RGGI will be creating green jobs in all states and spur innovation in clean energy economy. This auction has taken around five years to put it together.
As under Kyoto polluters will not recieve free emissions credits. The process of auction that has been set up by RGGI will result in bidding. This in better detail will be announced sometime this week.Carbon dioxide emissions bids will establish a price per ton.
