Non Profit Organizations

Most of us understand the importance of giving. Perhaps you learned this at an early age as a child or perhaps you've only recently started to notice the good work a local charity is involved with? Maybe you've been involved with raising money for a good cause, whether it was for your local hospital, school or religious organization?

If you have, you have direct experience in supporting non-profit organizations. Many individuals rely on the generosity of charitable organizations to make a difference in their daily lives. Some of these non-profit organizations have been in existence for decades. Others are new and aim to address some of modern society's most challenging issues.

The role of non-profit organizations is increasing in nearly every country in the world. In the U.S, you can find over 600,000 different charities and organizations representing thousands of different causes. Most people are aware that the support they offer is more and more crucial now due to the rising cost of living and the decreasing levels of funding provided by many governments.

So how do non-profit organizations work? The answer is simple. They rely on donations by individuals like you and from businesses and other foundations to make their work viable. Every contribution is helped to fund the organization and to provide relief and assistance to their cause.

You can probably think of local charities that operate in your area. Some non-profits are also huge international organizations that rely on donations to assist those suffering from the results of famine, disease and war. Other types aim at educating the public about specific causes, such as the environment, and appeal to our concern for future generations as well as our own.

And if you're looking to make a donation to a specific non-profit, don't be fooled into thinking that your contribution is unlikely to make a difference. According to a recent survey, most organizations – while gratefully accepting large sums of money from companies and wealthy donors – rely on small individual contributions for their day to day survival.
